In 2008, the backyard of 1416 Dayton Street was offered for use to neighborhood residents in the community, for the Blue Chair Community Gardens. The gardens are open from June thru September. If you would like to participate in the garden, please contact Sharon Duwaik 720-635-9499, shirin80220@yahoo.com

The garden has received support from Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) and as of April 2009 the garden has officially been adopted by DUG.   One garden leader named Walter,  cut up and removed a large Juniper bush  (12′ in diameter), the extra ground has allowed the garden to grow immensely. ..there are now 16 garden plots, each aproximately  6′ x 10′ in size.   Walter also roto-tilled the ground  and he helped find lots of strange treasures that had been tossed into the earth over the years!

DUG has contributed crushed rock for pathways and also half a truck of compost to help ammend the soil.  The gardeners have a formalized Garden Club which collectively oversees the garden.  They have recently acquired a $500 grant from the Denver Foundation’s “Strengthening Neighborhoods Grant”.  They plan to purchase more soil ammendments, plants, garden tools, a new wheel barrow  and other necessary equipment.

The Gardeners plan to be active members of the East End Arts District.  And the backyard of 1416 Dayton will also host many neighborhood art displays.
