Save the Date: Artist Inc. training for artists

Announcing the Artist, Inc. professional development program for artists, starting in April, 2010.

Did you resolve to “do something about your career” in 2010? Artist, Inc. may be just what you are looking for!

A recent study conducted by the Colorado Council on the Arts indicates that the “Creative Sector” accounts for the 5th largest employment sector statewide, and that Colorado ranks 5th among all states for largest concentration of artists. That’s a lot of artists for a state ranked 22nd in the US for overall population!

Though artists are generally more educated than the overall workforce, artists typically earn 26% less than the average among other workers and 67% of artists must supplement their incomes by working at other jobs. TOSA’s Artist, Inc. program wants to help change those statistics and help you to elevate your art career.

Through this unique ten-week program (April—June, 2010), participants will learn from artists and business professionals about relevant and timely topics that will help and inspire you to move your artwork and career to the next level.

Interested in learning more about the program or interested in applying? Please send an email with you name and phone number to mlaz@theothersidearts.org

participate in a mail art exhibition themed “Where are you coming from?”  We are looking for regional and international artists to submit 4” x 6” original work on paper for exhibition and sale.  Each work will be sold for $10, with proceeds funding this project and future Fe-Mail Box events. Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and mixed media are all welcome.  The exhibition will be hosted by East End Applied Arts and anderson’s art box which are both located at 1556 Florence Street in Aurora, Colorado.

“Where are you coming from?” was inspired by the fact we are ‘stuck’ in the middle of America. We want to know ‘where you are coming from’ not only in the physical sense but psychological, spiritual, philosophical, theoretical (art) whatever.  We want to engage our viewers in an international dialogue and need your help. So, in the spirit of ‘mail art’ we request your submissions and if this is a new art form for you please check out the following websites:  www.mail-art.de; www.spareroom.org; www.zyarts.com

We will accept entries until the week of June 8th, the date we hang the show.  We have been eagerly awaiting the daily post and have received some great entries from regional, national, and international artists thus far.  Okay- we are hooked!

Where are you coming from?” will open during the East End Arts District summer art walk, Friday, June 12th from 5-9 pm.  We will post video and images from the opening on our websites.

If you would like to participate, please see the attached submission forms.

Instructions:

  1. Create or attach your artwork to any 4”x6” heavy weight paper (140lb or above).  No more than three entries per artist.

New Artist Group Forming

The Other Side Arts is forming a group of artists to participate in a peer to peer learning group. We would like to involve 6-10 artists in the group. The artists will set agendas and learning objectives including development in areas from internet marketing to peer critiques. The artists will meet as often as the group feels is appropriate and TOSA will assist the group in learning sessions. This is a great way to get motivated and stay focused on your art career with the help of people who understand what you’re going through.

Our first meeting will be on January 15th at 6:30 p.m. at TOSA Aurora 1400 Dallas St. This is an initial meeting to discuss how this group will work. Times, dates and subjects are open to discussion by the group and guided by TOSA.

Please contact Jeff Ball at jball@theothersidearts.com prior to the meeting to confirm or with any questions.
